Your Word Is Your Bond
It was the summer of 2003 and I was interning at Bernard Herold & Co, Inc. It was a great opportunity to experience New York City and the world of finance. I learned many things that summer, but the one thing that stands out to this day are the five words that he had sitting on his desk:
"Your Word Is Your Bond"
Those are the words that Bernie Herold told me never to forget. I've tried to live by them ever since.
Being responsible and accountable for what you say is very important. I need to know that if someone promises me something, it will be delivered. Having to double or triple check on someone is a burden and something that dirties your relationship with that person.
It is so much easier to be straigh forward and to the point than over promising and under delivering.
"Your Word Is Your Bond"
With everything that is happening in the economy and in the world, it is fitting that we try to act better. I don't know what that means we have to do. But we have to take one action at a time and start putting our lives back together. Don't wait for the government, your boss, your parents, or whoever else you are waiting for help or direction. Look at yourself and see where you can improve and do it. This is the time.
For too long people have relied on others for direction, make it your mission to change that. Make a positive change for the future.
Remember that whatever you do, it is going to stick with you. In this day and age, you are accountable for everything and you are being watched and heard by the whole world. No longer can you disappear and be forgotten. Embrace it.
"Your Word Is Your Bond"
This is your chance to be better. This is your chance to influence others. This is your chance to be somebody. This is your chance to be remembered.
"Your Word Is Your Bond"
Those five words have been forgotten. Let's remember them again. It is time to be moral. It is time to change the mindset of the world.
"Your Word Is Your Bond"
I needed to write this because I'm disgusted with what's going on in the world. People are not accountable for what they do. And when they get caught they blame someone else, it is never their fault. Let's make them accountable. Let's get the facts and put the right people away and move on. There have been too many free rides. It is time to charge for the bus and get rid of the freeloaders.
"Your Word Is Your Bond"
I will be in meetings tomorrow and rest of the week that inspired this rant. I am disgusted with everything that I hear, so this is me venting this frustration.
Let the journey continue,
Janis
