Practice

I've been thinking about all the great bloggers out there and the intimidation that newbies face. Whenever I see a great post, I think how brilliant that person is and that I really need to have better posts. The reality is that these great bloggers had to start somewhere and they were not always this good. They wrote and found their voice.

That's why you can't expect to write your best if you're just starting out. You just need to write about things that you enjoy and you will become better naturally without putting a lot of pressure on yourself.

It's about action... I read somewhere about an experiment where two groups of students were either asked to make as many tea cups as they can in a certain time limit or make one tea cup that is the best or the highest quality.

Guess which group had the highest quality cup? The first group made so many cups that they were able to see what worked well and they did not have pressure on having one that will be the best. The result was initially surprising to me, but after thinking about it made a lot of sense. With a lot of attempts you are bound to create something of value or quality.

This example can be seen in many different fields. It takes years of practice to master a skill. That means that you will have failures and you will have to persevere. Which means a lot of attempts. It means practice.

(I had to put this in here. Classic Iverson)

So, get out there and practice writing. Practice whatever you think you can't do.

Let me know how it goes.
